Step-by-step guide

Before you start:

Installation of iOS Applications:

The following three iOS Apps must be installed prior to using Harvest Quality Vision, and can be downloaded from the App Store:

  1. Croptracker
  2. Structure (for camera Firmware updates)
  3. Structure Sensor Calibrator (to calibrate the camera)

Farm/Block Set Up:

  1. In order to start scanning, you will need to have set up a location on your farm to record scans against
  2. Follow the steps in the "Setting Up Your Farm" help video or contact Croptracker to help you figure out what your location set up should look like

Important Note

You need to have at least one location, ie Block, set up before you can create a Harvest Vision Event and start scanning. If you want to test scan before you map your fields/do more set up, you can create a test block to record scans against.

Connectivity and Syncing:

  1. Prior to scanning you will need to determine if you have network connectivity where you will be scanning
  2. If you will not be connected to the internet while scanning, you will need to open and sync your Croptracker account before heading out to scan
  3. Open the Croptracker app and select the Harvest Vision module
  4. Pull down on the screen as if you are refreshing a page to sync your account information. You should see a green line moving across the top of your screen to indicate it is loading
  5. When the line has stopped moving your Harvest Vision Events and Locations should be synced so you can leave your network connection to start scanning

Important Note

Do not pull down to refresh the screen again until you have finished scanning and are back near your wifi connection.

Setting up the event:

Create a Harvest Vision Event: Setup

  1. Open and login to the Croptracker App with your unique user name and password
  2. On the Croptracker Dashboard, tap on Harvest Vision to be navigated to a list of all Harvest Vision Events:

    1. The first time you open the Harvest Vision Events using your account the list will be empty; pull-down the screen to refresh. Refreshing the first time may take a minute or two to synchronize all the necessary data from your Croptracker system; an animation displayed at the top of the list will indicate when it is being synchronized.

See Above

See "Connectivity and Syncing" section above for more about refreshing this screen

  1. Tap the  ‘+’  at the top of the screen to create a Harvest Vision Event:

Mandatory Fields

Please note which fields are mandatory when creating a Harvest Vision Event. Scans will not upload properly without these fields filled in.

Doing a Scan:

Harvest Vision Scanning

  1. Once your event information is entered, you can start scanning
  2. Hit the Start Scanning button at the bottom of the app screen. This will prompt the camera to start. (If sensor does not initialize after a few moments it may be necessary to unplug and re-plug in the sensor -- If re-plugging does not work it may be necessary to re-charge the camera.)
  3. Hold the iPad approximately 50-70cm above the first unit being scanned.

  4. Select ‘Scan’ and move the iPad around the top of the unit until all visible fruit is ‘encased’ within a green mesh. It's helpful to think of the this as a scan and not a photo. The more views you can get of the fruit from various angles will give the camera more information. You can even move slowly around the bin if you cannot reach all sides by standing in place.
  5. When you have finished the scan, press save.
  6. Repeat the process until all the bins are scanned. You may scan a bin more than once as it is being filled to capture even more information.
  7. When you are finished scanning, hit the Done button on the top of the screen.
  8. You will taken back to the Harvest Vision Event Screen.
  9. To upload your scans, hit back in the top right corner to return to list of Harvest Vision Events. Pull down on this screen when you are connected to wifi or mobile data to upload the scans. You will see the number of scans to be uploaded go down as they work.

Viewing Scan Results

  1. To view the scans, you will be to use Croptracker on your browser, not the app.
